AWS re:Invent 2020 Conference is coming

AWS re:Invent is a learning-conference for the cloud-computing-community. In the last eight years the conference took place in Las Vegas, last year with over 65000 attendees. Due to the corona pandemic, the conference will be a completely virtual event this year. In opposite to some hybrid conferences, where the attendees have the choice between an on-site and a remote participation, there will be no on-site parts of the re:invent conference this year.

The duration of the conference is also different from previous years, as the program will be spread over three weeks this year. Re:Invent will „follow the sun“, that means broadcasts will be repeated in the following time zones:

  • America (PST)
  • Asia-Pacific (SGT)
  • Europe (GMT)

Participation is free, that means not only are there no travel expenses and travel times this year, there is also no need to apply to the boss for a participation fee. One more reason to take a look at the agenda and put together an individual training program from the office or from the home office.

The agenda includes sessions, trainings and certifications. As in previous years, the keynotes will again be one of the highlights of the conference, where various announcements about new products and services are expected. Here is an excerpt from the keynote list with the scheduled times in the European time zone:

  • CEO Andy Jassy (Rebroadcast Europe: December 2, 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM GMT)
  • CTO Keynote, Dr.Werner Vogels (Rebroadcast Europe: December 16, 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM GMT)
  • Machine Learning Keynote, Swami Sivasubramanian: (Rebroadcast Europe: December 9, 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM GMT)
  • Cloud Infrastructure Keynote, Peter De Santis (Rebroadcast Europe: December 11, 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM GMT)

If you have a special focus, you should look at the list of communities: there is a (virtual) lounge for each community, where you can attend community-led chats, connect one-to-one with an AWS expert and access resources of different skill levels. Examples for such communities are:

  • Developers
  • Getting Started with AWS
  • Startups

In addition to all these technical themes, although it is only a virtual conference, there will also the possibility to collaborate and network. Registration is open: https://reinvent.awsevents.com/
